David A. Abrutyn, M.D.

Having weathered his own fair share of injuries as a high-school athlete, Dr. David Abrutyn has come to develop a passion and expertise for orthopedics and sports medicine that allows him to help people of all ages return to their normal and active lifestyles. He sees patients with every type of orthopedic problem, and specializes in all sports injuries with a comprehensive emphasis on shoulder and knee disorders and surgery—from ACL and cartilage repair to total knee and shoulder procedures. His practice ranges from non-operative treatment to arthroscopic, reconstructive and joint replacement surgery.
Dr. Abrutyn is the team physician for both Immaculata High School in Somerville and Sky Blue FC, New Jersey’s team in Women’s Professional Soccer. He also serves as Medical Director of The Joint Surgery Institute at Somerset Medical Center, ranked among the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide for joint replacement surgery, as well as Associate Chairman of the Division of Orthopedic Surgery at Somerset Medical Center and Tissue Transplant Service Director at Somerset Ambulatory Surgical Center. Additionally, he is an invited Associate Instructor at the Arthroscopy Association of North America’s Orthopaedic Learning Center, a reviewer for the Journal of Arthroscopy, and a member of the Skylands Conference Medical Advisory Board and numerous professional associations.
A graduate of Northwestern University and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Dr. Abrutyn completed his internship and residency at North Shore University/Long Island Jewish Medical Center. His postgraduate training includes a fellowship in sports medicine at the Southern California Center for sports Medicine.
Dr. Abrutyn completed the New York Marathon in 1998.
