Robert S. Boretz, M.D.
Dr. Robert Boretz is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery. He treats disorders of the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulders as well as general orthopedic injuries in patients of all ages. Fellowship trained in hand and upper extremity care, Dr. Boretz specializes in shoulder and elbow joint replacement, complex reconstruction of the hand and wrist, vascular nerve repair, endoscopic carpal tunnel release surgery, and a host of minimally invasive procedures that restore function and improve quality of life.
Dr. Boretz has served the central New Jersey community for over 10 years, with great compassion for patients and a special approach to care. He takes the time to listen to his patients, educate them about their medical needs, and develop tailored treatment plans.
Dr. Boretz holds a certificate of added qualification in surgery of the hand from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is Chief of Orthopedics at Somerset Medical Center, where he also is on the teaching faculty for the hospital’s family practice residency. In addition, Dr. Boretz has clinical privileges at Morristown Memorial Hospital and Somerset Ambulatory Surgical Center. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, Orthopaedic Surgeons of New Jersey and the Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society.
After earning his medical degree, cum laude, from State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn, Dr. Boretz completed a general surgery internship and an orthopedic surgery residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, NY. He followed this training with a hand surgery fellowship at Tufts Medical Center and the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
