Joint Replacement

According to the National Institutes of Health, joint replacement has become a common orthopedic procedure — so much so that each year nearly 800,000 Americans have a hip or knee replacement to help them feel better and be more mobile.

The shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle are all prominent joints in the body, and can become damaged due to arthritis or trauma, inhibiting movement and causing intense pain. Damaged joints can be surgically removed and replaced with new manufactured joints made of plastic, metal or ceramic. These replacement joints function just like natural joints and can restore a patient’s previous range of motion pain free.

The Center for Orthopedic Care specializes in joint replacement of the shoulder, hip, and knee, and takes a comprehensive, coordinated approach to care with extensive experience in both partial and full joint replacement. Dr. David Abrutyn brings a special expertise in joint replacement to The Center for Orthopedic Care, as Medical Director of The Joint Surgery Institute at Somerset Medical Center, ranked among the country’s top 10 percent of hospital’s for joint replacement surgery and a 2010 recipient of the HealthGrades Joint Replacement Excellence Award. Dr. Thomas Nordstrom performs arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the hip and knee, and is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
