Posterior Cruciate ligament (PCL) Injury
An injury to the PCL is caused by trauma to the front of a bent knee. This injury is similar to MCL and ACL injuries, occurring in three separate levels.
Symptoms
- Pain during the time of impact
- Swelling in the area might occur
- Pain when PCL is placed under stress
- Joint instability, and feelings of knee buckling
Treatment
- Rest and Ice
- Crutches when necessary
- Possible physical therapy
- Reconstructive surgery to replace damaged tendons with tendons from other parts of the body
