Posterior Cruciate ligament (PCL) Injury

An injury to the PCL is caused by trauma to the front of a bent knee. This injury is similar to MCL and ACL injuries, occurring in three separate levels.

Symptoms

  • Pain during the time of impact
  • Swelling in the area might occur
  • Pain when PCL is placed under stress
  • Joint instability, and feelings of knee buckling

Treatment

  • Rest and Ice
  • Crutches when necessary
  • Possible physical therapy
  • Reconstructive surgery to replace damaged tendons with tendons from other parts of the body
