Subacromial Bursitis

Subacromial Bursitis is caused by an entrapment of the bursa, which lubricates the supraspinatus tendon. This small sack becomes inflamed and causes pain during over-hand throwing motions.

Symptoms

  • Pain and weakness in arm when raised in a 60-degree arc
  • Pain when pressure is applied to front of upper arm

Treatment

  • Rest and heat
  • Continue to move the shoulder joint to maintain mobility
  • Anti-inflammatory medication when necessary
  • Surgery to aspirate the bursa
